Over the weekend, Soey Milk premiered Inflorescence, her second solo show (see 2015) to date with Corey Helford Gallery. The collection of over 20 paintings and drawings highlighted significant moments in Milk’s life. Those who attended the premiere may have felt a sense of familiarity with some of the crowd. This should not come as a surprise as the new body of work included portraits of many of her friends as well as herself. During a recent interview, she further explained – “If I’m working […]

On September 8th, Soey Milk’s second solo show (see 2015) with Corey Helford Gallery opens in Los Angeles. Collectively entitled Inflorescence, the vibrant new body of work features over 20 paintings and drawings (which served as studies for the paintings). The new pieces serve as markers for significant moments in Milk’s life, made all the more personal with her friends as source material (as well as what looks to be some self-portraits). The exhibition also sees the locally-based artist continue to explore the use of embedded objects as a medium, with […]

Earlier this month, Soey Milk brought her work up north to Hashimoto Contemporary in San Francisco for a solo entitled PIDA / 피다. On display were a diverse selection of works including oil paintings and graphite drawings, some with embedded objects incorporated into the pieces. The show will be on view through the 24th for those interested in a visit. Photo credit: Shaun […]

Previews: Soey Milk – “PIDA” @ Hashimoto Contemporary

Starting from opening night on October 1st, Hashimoto Contemporary in San Francisco will have new works from Soey Milk on display, oil paintings and graphite drawings. The Korean term “PIDA / 피다” (also the title of her show) means to blossom or to become something else, something that applies to the Los Angeles-based painter’s continued development in technique and artistic vision. Showing: Soey Milk – “SINAVRO” @ Corey Helford Gallery

Currently on view at Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City is a solo show from Soey Milk entitled SINAVRO, which is a pure Korean word translated loosely to mean “to progress slowly, almost imperceptibly.” Those who have followed evolution of the young Los Angeles-based artist’s work certainly have seen a move toward richer backgrounds and more intricate detailing in her feminine portraiture. Head over before January 10th if you want to check out her new paintings and drawings as well as a few purely abstract pieces that seem […]
