Previews: Rone – “Empire” Project (Melbourne)

Following up on his The Omega Project from 2017 (covered), Rone has taken that idea to the next level by creating an immersive installation in an abandoned Burnham Beeches art deco mansion in the heart of the Dandenong Ranges. Showing: Rone – “The Omega Project” (Melbourne)

Recently in his hometown of Melbourne, Rone created a unique installation lasting only a few weeks at an abandoned 1900s weatherboard cottage. Entitled The Omega Project, the temporary showcase in the condemned house features the Australian street artist’s signature portraiture on the walls and interiors decorated by set designer Carly Spooner. The project is a homage a time past and is also the most extensive piece of art Rone has ever created in one space. Via Designboom. Discuss Rone here.

Constantly expanding their brand of street art inspired fun based in Hawaii, POW! WOW!’s latest adventure takes them to a satellite event at the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival in Austin, Texas. Recap: POW! WOW! Taiwan

Last week, the first POW! WOW! Taiwan wrapped up successfully as invited artists finished public works throughout the capital city of Taipei. Rewind: April 8 – April 13

Keeping things going, we have another Rewind summary for you this week. First up is origami artist Sipho Mabona, who recently folded a life-sized elephant from a since giant sheet of paper. He and his team of nearly a dozen people worked over four weeks to create the 10 foot tall sculpture.
