FriendsWithYou – “We Are FriendsWithYou” Book Signing @ MOCA Grand Ave

On the afternoon of Saturday, May 31, FriendsWithYou celebrated the release of their We Are FriendsWithYou book, published by Rizzoli. The live signing event happened in their hometown of Los Angeles, at MOCA Grand Ave, with fans and friends of all ages. Before even arriving at the museum, music created by Money Mark could be heard as you walked to the courtyard. His recorded tunes and live accompaniment were a perfect complement to the whimsical and happy scene created by the duo. This included a […]

Showing: Jacob Hashimoto – “Gas Giant” @ MOCA

After providing you with a sneak peak setup look at Jacob Hashimoto’s MOCA Pacific Design Center installation, we are happy to be able to share images of the finished Gas Giant exhibition. The massive work seemingly alters the cube-like interior space of the PDC venue into a immersive, sublime, and otherworldly experience. Using traditional kite-making techniques and thousands of thin paper sheets attached to supports and string, the artist painstakingly collages the components into a sculptural environment whose whole definitely exceeds the sum of it […]

Jacob Hashimoto’s Gas Giant will be on view at MOCA Pacific Design Center from March 1 to June 8, but we were able to visit (courtesy of Martha Otero) the artist and his crew as they were on day 6 of putting up the massive 2-floor installation. The entire piece will take about one month to set up and will be Hashimoto’s first solo museum exhibition in California. Boxes and boxes of the artist’s signature paper and wood kites and tons of string and wire […]

This exhibition is part of Pacific […]

LACMA Moves To Take Over MOCA

Back in 2008 when the MOCA was bailed out by Eli Broad to the tune of $30 million, there was hope this would stabilize the financial status of the museum. However, recent controversy over the direction of the Los Angeles institution under the leadership of Jeffrey Deitch as well as continued monetary issues have finally led to a formal proposal for a takeover by LACMA (which surprisingly came at the request of the MOCA board). Only time will tell whether the leanings of the government-funded […]

MOCA Presents “Rebel” @ 941 N. Highland Avenue

This past weekend, MOCA presented Rebel, an exhibition conceived by James Franco and also including Douglas Gordon, Harmony Korine, Damon McCarthy, Paul McCarthy, Terry Richardson, Ed Ruscha, and Aaron Young. Showing at the JF Chen design space, the group effort is a deconstruction and reinterpretation of the legendary 1955 film Rebel Without A Cause which starred James Dean and Natalie Wood. Set within a space that mimics a Hollywood film set, the exhibition is broken up into different rooms and sections that studies various themes attached […]
