Upcoming: FriendsWithYou – “Little Cloud” Balloon @ Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade

Following in the footsteps of artists like KAWS, Takashi Murakami, Jeff Koons, and Tim Burton, FriendsWithYou will have the honor of contributing a balloon in this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade. The duo’s signature Little Cloud will be making its biggest appearance yet, as a 30-foot-wide balloon in the famed NYC parade. Symbolizing light and hope, their character will also herald the opening of two shows this month from the locally-based artists – bronze sculptures at The Hole & colorful 3-D plasteline paintings at Arsham/Fieg Gallery. Recap: ComplexCon 2018

Last weekend in Long Beach, the third edition of ComplexCon (also see 2016 & 2017) welcomed in sneakerheads, art enthusiasts, creatives, and tastemakers to an event billed to bring together “pop culture, music, art, food, style, sports, innovation, activism, and education.” Dominating the event was Takashi Murakami, who once again helped design the brand identity and released some of the most sought after collectibles for this year’s festival. Streets: Peanuts Global Artist Collective (New York)

As mentioned in our introduction to the Peanuts Global Artist Collective earlier this month, murals featuring the work of some of the participating artists were unveiled in New York. Painted on the side of downtown office buildings on the West Side near Hudson Square, imagery inspired by Charles M. Upcoming: Peanuts Global Artist Collective

Lovers of Snoopy and the Gang should rejoice with the impending launch of the Peanuts Global Artist Collective on April 16th. Releases: FriendsWithYou – “Little Cloud Pocket Amulet”

Earlier today, FriendsWithYou release a new sculpture edition – the Little Cloud Pocket Amulet. Limited to a run of 1000, the collectible meant to be an “enduring symbol of love and light as well as the idea that everything has a soul”  is made from brass plated lead-free pewter and will cost $60. Showing: FriendsWithYou – “Light Wave” @ Santa Monica Pier

Currently showing at the Santa Monica Pier through September 8th (7-10pm on Thursdays) is a new installation from FriendsWithYou. Light Wave is the collective’s largest installation to date and was created in partnership with the iconic pier’s Twilight Concert Series as well as Snapchat. The huge inflatables and play with light creates a magical setting for beachgoers enjoy through the rest of summer. Discuss FriendsWithYou here.

FriendsWithYou x Moncler (Ginza Flagship Store)

Continuing their commercial endeavors, FriendsWithYou recently collaborated with Moncler on a new collection of  jackets, sweatshirts and sweaters featuring their iconic imagery. The line entitled Happy Virus was created to launch the new flagship store in Tokyo in the top-flight Ginza shopping district. Adding in the Los Angeles-based duo’s graphics, plushes, and other design cues to the displays led to an immersive playground for shoppers who stopped by to check out the Italian-French brand’s new space. Upcoming: FriendsWithYou x Netflix – “True & the Rainbow Kingdom”

Slated for release in early 2017 is a new animated series on Netflix from FriendsWithYou called True & the Rainbow Kingdom. Those familiar with the Los Angeles-based collective’s imagery will agree that their characters and visual language would be perfect for a kids show. Now with the help of Pharrell Williams’ creative venture i am OTHER, Home Plate Entertainment, and GURU Studios, the story created will center on a girl name True with the target being the preschool set.
