Along with his current museum exhibition running at the Katzen Arts Center of the American University Museum in Washington DC (covered), Frey Norris unveiled the latest works from Tomokazu Matsuyama in a show entitled, The Future is Always Bright (previewed). The show consisted of sculptures and a mixture of small and large paintings done on amorphous and round-shaped canvases. On Thursday night, Tomokazu “Matsu” Matsuyama (interviewed) opened his latest solo show, “In Case You’re Lost”, at San Francisco’s Frey Norris. The vibrant collection of paintings, sculptures, and installations, consisting of what we affectionately call the “2.0” era of Matsu’s exciting career, were welcomed by the enthusiastic bay area crowd. During the winter break, AM dropped by Tomokazu “Matsu” Matsuyama’s (interviewed) studio to check out his progress for his first solo with San Francisco gallery Frey Norris. He’s definitely stepped his game up and this latest evolution of his signature characters, colors and patterns had our eyes glued to the studio walls.
