On June 23rd, Circle Culture’s Berlin branch will be opening an exhibition with Kevin Earl Taylor, his third with the gallery. Entitled Apex, the new body of work features paintings, works on paper and site-specific installations that seem to explore some the environmental issues facing our world today. Previews: Jose Luis Ceña Ruiz & Ioan-Ștefan Botiș – “Beautiful Disasters” @ Tales Of Art Gallery

On June 9th, two young painters will be opening a joint show at Tales Of Art Gallery in Imola, Italy entitled Beautiful Disasters. Curated by Sasha Bogojev, the exhibition will contrast Spanish artist Jose Luis Ceña Ruiz’s obscured portraits of people hiding in lush foliage with Romanian artist Ioan-Ștefan Botiș’ obsession with capturing disasters like car crashes, with fire being the key component in many of his works. With just one sculptural installation dominating Gagosian’s 511 Fifth Avenue space in Manhattan, Urs Fischer makes a bold statement about the nature of life itself. Constructed with aluminum and standing more than 10 feet tall, the life-size rhinoceros seems to absorb an assortment of everyday objects like a rollaway luggage, copy machine, car door and tires, toilet, vacuum cleaner, shovel, and laptop. As part of the $620 million “Dust to Gold” renovation at the Palms Casino Resort, an impressive collection ranging from blue-chip works to street art murals was acquired, commissioned, and deployed throughout the hotel. Upcoming: Alex Israel – “New Waves” @ Gagosian (Hong Kong)

Tomorrow (May 24th) in Hong Kong’s Gagosian outpost, Alex Israel will be opening his exhibition entitled New Waves. For his first solo in the Chinese city-state, he is taking a truly multi-media approach to presenting work inspired by surfer culture and growing up in the sunny metropolis of Los Angeles. Showing: Mark Whalen – “Grab Bag” @ Arsham/Fieg Gallery

Arsham/Fieg Gallery in New York currently has a show from Mark Whalen on display entitled Grab Bag. The towering stack pieces are examples of the increasing more sculptural work that he has been experimenting with recently. Whalen further explains – “Lately, I have been formulating new relationships with sculptural work. Grab Bag is a new series of multi-dimensional work that presents non-traditional totems representing life’s folly.
