Streets: Blek Le Rat (San Francisco)

While in town for his showing (more on this later) at Weinstein Gallery, legendary street artist Blek Le Rat spent some time working some of his stencil magic in San Francisco. Hitting several locations including the Hastings College of Law, the French artist was able make his mark on the area including conjuring up appearances of his famous rat. Openings: Blek Le Rat – “Ignorance is Bliss” @ Jonathan LeVine

Fans of street art know the legend of French artist Blek Le Rat. The pioneer of stenciling has garnered praise from notable peers such as Banksy and Shepard Fairey. We recently stopped by Jonathan LeVine Gallery to catch Blek’s latest exhibition entitled Ignorance is Bliss. This large show took over all three spaces in LeVine’s gallery and featured canvased works and a golden sculpture of his interpretation of Michelangelo’s David. Discuss Blek Le Rat here.

Celebrating the 64th anniversary of French magazine Paris Match, in partnership with Opera Gallery in Paris, 19 artists paid tribute by revisiting some of their iconic covers in paintings, sculptures, photos and other mixed media.
