Showing: Casey Gray – “Still Blue Skies” @ Direktorenhaus

Showing since the beginning of summer, Still Blue Skies at Direktorenhaus in Berlin features a new collection of paintings and sculptures from Casey Gray. Taking a cue from 17th century Dutch and Flemish masters, the mainly acrylic spray paint and fluid acrylic on panel pieces from the San Francisco-based artist are multi-layered, full of color, and reveals a deft touch with the trompe l’oeil technique – “a metaphor and coping mechanism for the superficiality and disillusion of the digital age.” Created with everyday objects and “artifacts mined from the depths […]

On January 11th, Urban Spree Galerie in Berlin will be hosting the opening of Futura: The 5 Elements. Previews: Emily Mae Smith – “Feast of Totems” @ Contemporary Fine Arts (Berlin)

Tomorrow night (June 9th), a new exhibition from Emily Mae Smith opens to the public at Contemporary Fine Arts in Berlin. Entitled Feast of Totems, the show is well named as it features the re-occurring imagery of fruits, droplets, tongues, lips, and teeth that signal a grotesque consumption running through the new body of work. Also seen in multiple paintings is one of the Brooklyn-based artist’s most recognizable motifs, the totemic broom lady posed in familiar positions that harken back to classic paintings in art history. Utilizing a flat […]

Previews: Kevin Earl Taylor – “Apex” @ Circle Gallery (Berlin)

On June 23rd, Circle Culture’s Berlin branch will be opening an exhibition with Kevin Earl Taylor, his third with the gallery. Entitled Apex, the new body of work features paintings, works on paper and site-specific installations that seem to explore some the environmental issues facing our world today. Much of the San Francisco-based artist’s imagery documents moments of encounter between different species of the natural world, separated by constructs like glass spheres and pedestals. At the opening reception, author Carl von Siemens will be presenting his book Der […]

Streets: Telmo Miel x James Bullough (Berlin)

Spending a week together in Berlin, Telmo Miel and James Bullough worked on a stunning new piece (located Bernburger Straße 35) that blends the work of the street artists together perfectly. Painting the large wall for the Berlin Mural Fest with the “Unity” concept proposed by Urban Nation in mind, the Dutch duo mixed their patchy & segmented imagery with the locally-based Bullough’s glitchy portraiture in a way the matches their styles up amazingly well. Take a look are more photos below… Discuss Telmo Miel here. Discuss James Bullough here.
