As mentioned here earlier, Luke Chueh (interviewed) is having a series of autograph and sketching sessions celebrating the release of his new book – Bearing the Unbearable. Last weekend, we dropped by Gallery 1988 (Melrose) for the first and largest of these signings which also included a series of sketches on display from the LA-based artist. Releases: Dan May – “The Resistless Hour Awaits” Print Set

Chicago-based painter Dan May (interviewed) recently put up a set of two prints for sale based on a commission piece he painted entitled The Resistless Hour Awaits. Featuring some of his signature imagery like his detailed rendering of strands, the limited editions are 16 x 20″ each, signed & numbered with COA, in a run of 50, and will cost you $100.  Head over to his webstore if you are interested. For the Faile (featured) fans out there that missed out on the book covers that were sold at their exhibition at Post No Bills (covered) last year, here is another chance. Tomorrow, June 9th (from 1-4 PM), Luke Chueh (interviewed) will be at the Gallery 1988 (Melrose location) signing his new book Bearing The Unbearable. Covering work from 2003-2009, the monograph is the first major publication from the LA-based artist known for his dark and humorous imagery featuring his cartoon-like characters including his infamous bear. Openings: Arrested Motion – “City of Fire” @ Stephen Webster

On Tuesday night, Los Angeles showgoers got their midweek art fix at Stephen Webster when the City of Fire exhibition was unveiled. With pieces filling the walls from Cyrcle., Thomas Doyle, Ron English, James Jean, Kid Zoom, Dave Kinsey, MARS-1, Patrick Martinez, Pedro Matos, REVOK, Rostarr, Andrew Schoultz, SABER, Jeff Soto, Judith Supine, TrustoCorp, Mark Dean Veca, Nick Walker, and Adam Wallacavage as well as free-flowing drinks courtesy of Kanon Vodka, a good time was had by all. Releases: Yayoi Kusama x Louis Vuitton – “Infinitely Kusama”

Japanese contemporary artist Yayoi Kusama’s collaboration with French fashion house Louis Vuitton was recently revealed in a series of photographs. Entitled Infinitely Kusama, the line will feature her signature dots & color motif covering garments, bags, jewelry and shoes. Scheduled for a July 10th release, devoted fans can do some shopping before heading to her retrospective at the Whitney Museum which opens two days later on July 12th. Releases: James Jean – “Nervosa” Print

James Jean (featured), who will be showing in our City of Fire show next week, has just released a beautiful new print on his webstore at OVM entitled Nervosa. Reproduced from one of his delicate and intricate drawings, the edition is limited to 100 and costs $75.
