Armory Week ’16: Armory Art Fair

Earlier this month, New York City welcomed in the Armory Art Show. This annual event showcases some of the brightest names and current trends in contemporary art (@ Pier 94) with a portion dedicated to some of the classics from art history (@ Pier 92). Curated by one of our own here at AM, Khoi Nguyen, a one-night only exhibition from photographer Quam Odunsi will open on March 31st in Los Angeles (3278 Wilshire Blvd). Entitled Hollywood, the show is presented by The Art of Elysium with proceeds to benefit the nonprofit dedicated to enriching the lives of artists and critically ill children. The disturbing photo of the Syrian child Alan Kurdi laying drowned on the beach has become an a rallying point for those concerned about the refugee crisis. Chinese artist and dissident Ai Weiwei recently posed as the boy for a photograph shot by Rohit Chawla for an upcoming issue of one of India’s largest news publications – India Today. Releases: JR – “Migrants, Walking New York City” Print

Earlier this year, we shared with you the special project that the New York Times Magazine collaborated on with JR (interviewed) for their Walking New York issue. That cover that resulted from that endeavor has now been released by the French “photograffeur” as a 8 color lithograph through Social Animals.
