Streets: Aryz (San Francisco) – Part I

As we shared with you a couple of weeks ago, Spanish artist Aryz has a show currently at Fifty24SF (covered). While in town, he has also started doing what he does best – getting up big on the streets of whatever city he is visiting. With the support of the gallery, WallSpaceSF, and Upper Playground, the young painter has been working on a large portrait located on Polk and Eddy Street. Streets: Blu (Italy)

The recently dormant Blu has woken up with a series of murals in Southern Italy protesting the the construction of a Mobile User Objective System, an array of satellites being developed for the United States Department of Defense. Although unproven, the local people believe that their are health risks of long-term exposure to the high-power transmissions and have mounted major protests against the station being bulit there. Art Focus: Joel Rea

We are ready to introduce another artist to you via our Art Focus feature – Joel Rea. The imagery of the Australia-based painter typically includes characters wrestling with forces of nature, often with a surreal effect. Openings: JR – “The Wrinkles of the City” @ Galerie Henrik Springmann (Berlin)

As you have seen from our coverage of murals going up all over Berlin, JR (interviewed) was in town for a show. The Wrinkles of the City opened several weeks ago at Galerie Henrik Springmann with photographs, wheatpasted found objects, as well as a rare video installation from the French photograffeur. Just hours ago, Murakami’s Kaikai Kiki Gallery in Tokyo hosted the opening of KAWS‘ latest solo show entitled Ohh… The exhibition has been a long time coming for the NY-based artist’s fans and collectors in Japan, also home to his OriginalFake store. Releases: Josh Keyes x Tiny Showcase – “Dawn II”

Continuing his collaboration with Tiny Showcase, Josh Keyes (interviewed) has chosen another image for his current print release – Dawn II. On sale through Tuesday, May 7th, the open timed release edition is available as a framed or unframed version.
