Openings: CRASH – “Broken English” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

One of the summer exhibitions that we checked out recently was by Bronx-based graffiti artist Crash, a.k.a. John Matos (featured) at Jonathan LeVine Gallery. Entitled Broken English this freshly minted body of work spanned traditional mediums such as canvas and paper, but also highlights Crash’s dexterity as a graffiti master as he worked his painterly street magic to redo a Mini Cooper in his signature style & visual language. As we’re in the middle of summer, we thought to bring you a closer look at a key installation from Ai Weiwei’s “According To What” exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum (covered). Eight years after comedy giant Dave Chapelle walked off the set of the third season the Chappelle’s Show and into the veil of private life, he made a triumphant return to the spotlight of the Big Apple at the historic Radio City Music Hall recently. Last weekend, New York’s Whitney Museum of American Art premiered its retrospective of American artist Jeff Koons. Simply entitled A Retrospective, this exhibition bears significant importance to both parties. AM recently attended the much anticipated opening for Israel Lund at Lower East Side’s David Lewis Gallery. The eponymously named solo includes both his signature silkscreened canvas paintings along with a new series of sculptures which center around one of his core tools – the silkscreen. Later this month, Jeff Koons will be unveiling a retrospective at New York’s Whitney Museum of American Art and there are plenty of events to coincide with this key exhibition. One of these will feature his famous outdoor flowered sculpture entitled Split-Rocker at the center of Rockefeller Center. Streets: WK Interact – “D-Day 70th Anniversary” @ Vilette Paris la Geode (Paris)

It looks like WK Interact (featured) has hit Europe again. After knocking out a towering mural in Belgium last month, the New York-based French artist returns to his homeland to build a patriotic mural at the La Géode in Paris to commemorate the 70th anniversary of D-Day (Check out a his previous visit to Paris).
