This Saturday night at Mary Boone Gallery’s Chelsea location (541 West 24 Street), Tomoo Gokita will be opening his new solo show. Featuring portraits done in his classic deconstructive style in black, white, and gray, the new body of work features an interesting array of titles like Showgirl, Geisha Girl, A Bathing Beauty, Cocktail Pianist from Acapulco, Daughter of a Fraudster, A Female Spy, Replicant Marilyn (seen above) belying the Japanese artist’s interest in portraying his visions of characters from “pulp fiction, Hollywood rags, and film noir.”
